Red Porgy/ Pagre
Its scientific name is Pagrus pagrus (Linnaeus, 1758) and it belongs to the family of Sparidae. Itis a so-called “red” fish, like dentex and pandora. It can reach a length of 90 centimeters and aweight of 8-9 kilos.It is a benthopelagic species –that is, it lives near the seabed in open waters and on differenttypes of beds (stony, sandy) in depths that range from 30 to 250 m. and more often below 150m. depth.It is met all over the Mediterranean basin, in the North and South East shores of theAtlantic,even in the West Atlantic (from the bay of Mexico to Argentina). It is an omnivorous speciesthat feeds mainly on benthic cancroids, fish, and mollusks.Unfortunately, it is an endangered species.
